Biography:
Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, more commonly known as Nearly Headless Nick, is the resident ghost of Gryffindor Tower in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Born in the 15th century, Sir Nicholas was a wizard who frequented the Muggle court. He attempted to fix Lady Grieve's buck teeth with magic, resulting in her growing a tusk. He was subsequently sentenced to beheading.
Unfortunately, the executioner's blunt axe failed to sever his head completely. He was struck forty-five times, leaving his head hanging by only a bit of skin and sinew.
Unable to pass on to the afterlife completely and unable to rejoin the living, he remained as a ghost at Hogwarts. He is known for his sensitivity about his near beheading and his desire to join the Headless Hunt, a privilege denied to him due to the still attached nature of his head.
Throughout the Harry Potter series, Nearly Headless Nick acts as a friend and guide to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, often providing information about the castle's history and ghostly affairs.
