She is an Atlantean warrior and the daughter of King Nereus of Xebel, a separatist Atlantean kingdom. Initially betrothed to Orm Marius, Aquaman's half-brother, she later allies herself with Arthur Curry (Aquaman) against Orm's plans to wage war on the surface world.
Mera possesses hydrokinetic powers, allowing her to manipulate water, and also displays considerable combat skills. Her first appearance in the DCEU was in the film Justice League (2017), before taking on a more prominent role in Aquaman (2018).
