Tyrone Johnson, known as Cloak, first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 (March 1982) as one half of the superhero duo Cloak and Dagger.
Tyrone and his partner, Tandy Bowen (Dagger), were runaways in New York City who were experimented on with a synthetic heroin by Simon Marshall of Silvermane. The drug granted them superpowers.
Cloak's power manifested as a connection to the Darkforce Dimension, enveloping him in darkness. He can teleport, absorb the life force of others into his cloak, and project darkness. He requires Dagger's light to maintain balance, as the Darkforce's energies are inherently corrupting.
Cloak and Dagger have frequently fought drug-related crimes and often team up with other Marvel heroes like Spider-Man and the X-Men. They have strived to use their powers to protect those who are vulnerable.
