Jefferson Pierce, known as Black Lightning, is a superhero featured in The CW television series of the same name. He is a school principal and retired superhero who returns to fighting crime to protect his community in Freeland.

Years prior to the events of the series, Jefferson operated as Black Lightning, using his metahuman abilities to control and generate electricity to combat the criminal organization known as The 100. After witnessing the negative impact his actions had on his family, he retired his superhero persona.

The CW's Black Lightning first appeared in the *Black Lightning* TV Show, Season 1, Episode 1, which aired on January 16, 2018. Driven by the escalating violence in Freeland and the kidnapping of his daughters, Anissa and Jennifer, Jefferson reclaims his mantle as Black Lightning to defend his city.
