Black Lightning, created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden, first appeared in Black Lightning #1 in 1977.

Jefferson Pierce is a high school principal and former Olympic decathlete who returns to his childhood neighborhood in Metropolis, where he becomes a vigilante to combat the rising crime rate. He possesses the metahuman ability to generate and manipulate electricity.

Initially, Jefferson tries to clean up the streets without using his powers. However, the murder of one of his students pushes him to become Black Lightning, utilizing his electric abilities to fight crime and protect his community.

He has also been a member of teams such as the Justice League and the Outsiders.
