Phoenix, most notably associated with Jean Grey of the X-Men, is a powerful cosmic entity within the Marvel Universe. The character, as Jean Grey, first appeared in X-Men #1 (September 1963).
Initially, Jean Grey was a mutant with telekinetic and telepathic abilities. During a mission in space, she was exposed to deadly solar radiation and gained access to the full power of the Phoenix Force. This cosmic power transformed her into the Green Phoenix, exponentially increasing her abilities.
The Phoenix Force, an immortal and destructive entity, eventually corrupted Jean, leading to her becoming the Dark Phoenix. This transformation resulted in widespread destruction and ultimately led to Jean's self-sacrifice to save the universe from the Phoenix's uncontrollable power. Although Jean Grey died in this process, the Phoenix force has remained tied to her existence and often returns through her or other beings.
