Lurtz is a fictional character appearing in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring. He is an Uruk-hai, a breed of Orc bred by Saruman the White.

Unlike Orcs born naturally, Lurtz is birthed from a mud pit, fully grown and combat-ready. He is significantly larger and stronger than typical Orcs, embodying Saruman's ambition to create a superior fighting force. He leads the initial Uruk-hai raid on the Fellowship at Amon Hen.

Lurtz is distinguished by his menacing appearance, including black war paint, heavy armor, and a broadsword. He demonstrates ruthless efficiency and a complete lack of fear in battle. He is shown to be a brutal commander, willing to sacrifice his own troops to achieve his objective, which is to capture the hobbits, Merry and Pippin.

Lurtz meets his end at Amon Hen, killed by Aragorn in a fierce duel. His death marks a significant loss for Saruman and demonstrates the strength of the resistance against the rising power of Isengard.
