Haldir is a Marchwarden of Lothlórien, specifically tasked with guarding the northern borders of the Golden Wood. He is of the Silvan Elves, also known as the Wood-elves, though he speaks Westron (the Common Speech) with an accent.

Haldir is first encountered by the Fellowship of the Ring when they seek passage through Lothlórien. He initially prevents them from entering due to Gimli the Dwarf's presence, but after communicating with Galadriel via elvish messages, he allows them to proceed and guides them to Caras Galadhon, the city of the Galadhrim.

Haldir is a respected figure, demonstrably loyal to Galadriel and Celeborn. He is depicted as a capable warrior and a knowledgeable guide within his domain.
