Biography:
Azog the Defiler is a formidable Orc chieftain in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium, most notably featured in The Hobbit and its appendices. He is the father of Bolg and a key antagonist, driven by a deep-seated hatred for Dwarves.
Azog ruled over the Orc stronghold of Moria after driving out the Dwarves. In the year T.A. 2790, King Thrór of the Dwarves returned to Moria. Azog personally beheaded Thrór, carving his name into the fallen king's forehead. This act ignited the War of the Dwarves and Orcs.
The war culminated in the Battle of Azanulbizar (also known as Nanduhirion), where Azog was eventually slain by Dáin Ironfoot, avenging Thrór's death. Despite his death, Azog's legacy of hatred lived on through his son, Bolg, who would later lead the Orc armies in the Battle of Five Armies.
Azog's actions directly contributed to the Dwarves' animosity towards Orcs and played a significant role in the events leading to Bilbo Baggins's journey to Erebor. He is presented as a cruel, powerful, and influential figure within Orc society.
