Zombies, also known as "walkers", are reanimated corpses and the primary antagonists in the TV Show *The Walking Dead*. These creatures are driven by an insatiable hunger for the living, and their bite turns victims into more zombies.
The zombies' first on-screen appearance is in the pilot episode, "Days Gone Bye" (2010), where Rick Grimes encounters them upon waking from a coma.
Zombies vary in appearance depending on decomposition level, but generally are decaying, slow-moving, and can only be permanently killed by damaging the brain. While initially posing a significant threat, they become a common obstacle that the surviving humans must navigate and combat on a daily basis in order to survive in the apocalyptic landscape.
