Zombies, also known as walkers, are reanimated corpses and the primary antagonists in The Walking Dead TV show.
These creatures are humans who have succumbed to a virus that reanimates their bodies after death. They are characterized by their decaying flesh, slow, shuffling gait, and insatiable hunger for living flesh. Any bite or scratch from a walker can transmit the virus.
Walkers first appeared in the show's premiere episode, "Days Gone Bye," where Rick Grimes encounters them shortly after waking up from a coma.
While individually slow and unintelligent, walkers are dangerous in large numbers. The survivors of the apocalypse spend much of their time trying to survive against the ever present threat of these undead beings.
