Gan Ning, also known as Gan Xingba, is a prominent character featured in various adaptations of the historical novel *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*. He was a skilled general serving under various warlords during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history.

Originally a pirate leader known for his flamboyant attire and boisterous personality, Gan Ning first served under Liu Biao and Huang Zu, but his talents were often overlooked. Disappointed by their lack of recognition, he eventually defected to Sun Quan, leader of the Eastern Wu forces.

Under Sun Quan, Gan Ning quickly proved his worth as a brave and resourceful commander. He played a crucial role in numerous battles, including the Battle of Jiangxia and the Battle of Red Cliffs, earning a reputation for his daring raids and fearless leadership.
