Captain Marvel, known as Mar-Vell, is a significant figure in the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (December 1967). A male Kree alien, Captain Marvel was initially sent to Earth as a spy, designated PG8085, to observe and assess the planet's potential threat to the Kree Empire.
However, Mar-Vell grew disillusioned with the Kree's militaristic ambitions and developed a strong sense of justice. He eventually chose to defend Earth, adopting the persona of a superhero and using his Kree physiology to battle various threats.
Though depicted as a hero, his actions still had Kree implications. He fought alongside and eventually had an intertwined destiny with Carol Danvers, who would later become a more well known Captain Marvel.
