The Iron Patriot armor, as worn by Norman Osborn, made its first comic book appearance in Dark Avengers #1 (2009).
Following the Skrull invasion, Norman Osborn, previously known as the Green Goblin, seized control of H.A.M.M.E.R., replacing S.H.I.E.L.D. He formed his own team of Avengers, the Dark Avengers, populated by supervillains posing as heroes.
Osborn donned the Iron Patriot armor, a suit of advanced technology painted with the colors and design of the American flag. He used the Iron Patriot persona to present himself as a national hero and a symbol of security, further solidifying his power and control.
The Iron Patriot armor, while visually similar to Iron Man's suit, was of Osborn's own design and housed advanced weaponry and technologies. His run as Iron Patriot was marked by ruthlessness, paranoia, and a manipulative leadership style.
