Victor Zsasz is a chilling serial killer from the DC Comics universe. He first appeared in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 (June 1992).
Driven to madness, Zsasz believes life is meaningless and seeks to "free" others from their pointless existence by murdering them. Unlike many Gotham villains, Zsasz doesn't operate for profit or power. His motives are purely nihilistic and philosophical, twisted as they are.
Zsasz marks his own skin with a tally mark for each of his victims, creating a horrifying living record of his crimes. He often leaves his victims posed in lifelike positions, further emphasizing his warped sense of artistry and the illusion of freedom from suffering.
He typically escapes from Arkham Asylum, due to his cunning intellect and resourcefulness, becoming a recurring threat to Batman and Gotham City. His lack of superpowers makes him particularly terrifying, as he represents the capacity for extreme violence that can exist within any individual.
