The Green Ranger is a significant character in the Power Rangers franchise, most famously appearing first in the original series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Initially introduced as a villain, Tommy Oliver was brainwashed by Rita Repulsa to become the evil Green Ranger, wielding the Dragon Shield and the Dragon Dagger, which could summon the Dragonzord.
After being freed from Rita's control, Tommy joined the Power Rangers as a hero, making him the sixth member of the team. The Green Ranger's powers were temporary, eventually fading, leading to Tommy's departure and later return as other Rangers such as the White Ranger.
The role and backstory of the Green Ranger, including the villainous introduction, has been adapted and reinterpreted throughout various Power Rangers iterations and is inspired in part by elements from the Super Sentai series, Mahou Sentai Magiranger. The MagiGreen ranger of Magiranger is translated as the Green Mystic Ranger of the Mystic Force series.
