Kratos is a video game character primarily known from the *God of War* series. He first appeared in *God of War* (2005) for the PlayStation 2.
Born in Sparta, Kratos was a respected soldier who rose through the ranks. To save himself and his army from defeat, he pledged himself to Ares, the God of War. Ares granted him immense power and the Blades of Chaos, but tricked Kratos into murdering his own family.
Consumed by grief and rage, Kratos renounced his allegiance to Ares and embarked on a quest for vengeance. This quest led him to battle gods, monsters, and ultimately ascend to the position of God of War himself.
