Biography:
Lao Che is a prominent Shanghai gangster and owner of Club Obi Wan, a nightclub featured in the opening sequence of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984).
He initially contracts Indiana Jones to retrieve the ashes of Nurhaci, a 17th-century emperor, promising a valuable diamond in exchange. However, Lao Che orchestrates a double-cross, attempting to poison Jones and steal the ashes and the diamond back.
His plans are thwarted by Jones, Willie Scott, and Short Round, who escape with the diamond and leave Lao Che and his sons, Chen and Kao Kan, to deal with the consequences of their failure. He is portrayed as a ruthless and opportunistic crime boss, more concerned with profit than honor.
Lao Che meets his demise when the plane he attempts to use to pursue Jones crashes after running out of fuel, impliedly due to sabotage.
