Backlash is a fictional character primarily associated with Image Comics and later, other independent publishers. Originally known as Marc Slayton, he is a Kherubim-human hybrid with a long and complex history.

Slayton served as a highly decorated covert operative during the Cold War era, known for his exceptional combat skills and longevity stemming from his Kherubim heritage. He gained his powers, including energy whips and psionic abilities, through experimentation. He founded and led various government agencies, including Team 7.

Over time, Backlash's storylines explored his relationships with other Kherubim, his involvement in global conflicts, and the consequences of his actions. He often grapples with moral ambiguities due to his role in controversial operations and his connections to powerful, sometimes malevolent, beings.

The character has appeared in numerous comic book series and crossovers, navigating storylines centered on espionage, superheroics, and alien conspiracies. He is a skilled fighter, tactician, and possesses a considerable degree of superhuman resilience.
