Jervis Tetch, better known as the Mad Hatter, is a recurring Batman villain who uses mind control technology disguised as hats.
He first appeared in Batman #49 (October 1948). In the original comic book appearances, he is obsessed with Alice in Wonderland lore and attempts to force young women to become his Alice.
Later interpretations have explored his backstory, often portraying him as a scientist whose experiments with mind control have driven him mad. He uses microchips and other devices hidden in hats to control the thoughts and actions of his victims.
