Papyrus is a major character in the indie role-playing game Undertale, first released in September 2015. He is a skeleton monster residing in the Snowdin Forest.
Papyrus aspires to be a member of the Royal Guard, the elite force of the Underground's military. His defining characteristics are his optimistic and flamboyant personality, his love for puzzles (which are often ineffective), and his unwavering belief in himself, despite often failing.
He is the younger brother of Sans, another prominent character, with whom he lives. Their dynamic is characterized by Sans's laid-back nature contrasting with Papyrus's energetic and ambitious persona.
