Howard Wolowitz is a fictional character from the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. He first appears in the pilot episode, "Pilot," which aired on September 24, 2007.

Howard is an aerospace engineer and later a payload specialist astronaut. Initially, he lives with his overbearing mother, Debbie, well into his adult years, contributing to much of the show's comedic material. He is portrayed as having a somewhat outlandish sense of style and often attempts to impress women with magic tricks and self-proclaimed pickup artist skills, often with little success.

Among his group of friends, Howard initially lacks a PhD, which he often feels self-conscious about, though he compensates with his practical engineering skills and his eventual space travel experience. He is known for his distinctive phrases and impressions. He eventually marries Bernadette Rostenkowski and they have two children together.
