Pirates of the Caribbean

Admiral James Norrington is a prominent character in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He begins as a Commodore in the Royal Navy, relentlessly pursuing pirates, especially Captain Jack Sparrow. He's depicted as a highly skilled swordsman, disciplined officer, and upholder of the law and order.

Driven by duty and a desire to prove himself, Norrington initially prioritizes capturing Sparrow above all else. However, his principles are tested throughout the series, particularly by his developing respect for Elizabeth Swann and the complex moral landscape of piracy. He desires to marry Ms. Swann and will do nearly anything to win her hand.

Norrington's trajectory takes a dramatic turn as he faces professional setbacks and personal sacrifices. Stripped of his rank after Sparrow escapes in the first film, he becomes disillusioned with the Navy and eventually aligns himself, albeit reluctantly at times, with pirates. He briefly serves under Jack Sparrow later. His ambition and longing for redemption ultimately lead to his tragic demise, attempting to reclaim his honor and protect Elizabeth from Davy Jones.
