Commander William Thomas Riker, commonly known as Will Riker, is a central character in the Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) television series and subsequent films. He first appeared in the debut episode of TNG, "Encounter at Farpoint," in 1987.
Riker serves as the First Officer aboard the USS Enterprise-D and later the USS Enterprise-E, under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Known for his tactical expertise, leadership qualities, and adventurous spirit, he frequently leads away teams and is a key figure in resolving conflicts and exploring new worlds.
Throughout TNG's seven seasons and the associated movies, Riker is presented with numerous opportunities for promotion to Captain and command his own vessel, but he ultimately declines, citing his loyalty to Picard and his satisfaction with his role on the Enterprise. He is characterized by his confident demeanor, his signature "Riker Maneuver" (mounting a chair by swinging his leg over the back), and his occasional romantic entanglements.
Riker is promoted to Captain later in his career and commands the USS Titan. He also appears in later Star Trek series.
