Biography:
Zorro, meaning "fox" in Spanish, is a fictional character created in 1919 by pulp writer Johnston McCulley. He is a masked outlaw who defends the oppressed against corrupt officials and other villains in Spanish Colonial California.
Zorro's alter ego is Don Diego de la Vega, a wealthy nobleman's son. He adopts a seemingly foppish and uninterested persona to conceal his true identity as a skilled swordsman and tactician. He uses his intellect and athletic abilities to outwit his enemies.
He is typically portrayed as a master swordsman, marksman, and horseman. Zorro uses a rapier as his primary weapon, often leaving his signature "Z" mark carved into objects or his opponents' clothing. He is aided by a loyal mute servant, often named Bernardo, who pretends to be deaf and dumb to gather information.
Zorro has been featured in numerous films, television series, books, comics, and other media, becoming a cultural icon of justice and rebellion. Notable portrayals include Douglas Fairbanks, Tyrone Power, and Antonio Banderas.
