Biography:
Scott Carpenter, a prominent figure featured in the "Celebrities" version of the board game Cranium, was one of the original seven Mercury astronauts. Born in Boulder, Colorado, in 1925, Carpenter served as a naval aviator before being selected for the Mercury program in 1959.
His single orbital flight on May 24, 1962, aboard the Aurora 7 capsule, lasted nearly five hours. While the mission achieved its objectives, Carpenter's performance was scrutinized due to higher-than-expected fuel consumption and landing accuracy deviations.
Following his spaceflight, Carpenter took a leave of absence from NASA to participate in the Navy's SEALAB program, spending time underwater as an aquanaut. He later returned to NASA but did not fly in space again. Scott Carpenter passed away in 2013, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneer of American space exploration.
