Samuel "Sam" Guthrie, better known as Cannonball, is a mutant superhero in Marvel Comics, primarily associated with the X-Men and X-Force. Hailing from a large Kentucky family, Sam's mutant ability allows him to generate thermo-chemical energy and propel himself through the air like a cannonball, becoming near-invulnerable while doing so.
He was initially discovered by the Hellfire Club and intended as a pawn, but Professor X intervened, and Sam became a founding member of the New Mutants. He is known for his optimistic and somewhat naive personality, often acting as the heart and soul of the team.
Throughout his career, Cannonball has served as a member of various X-Men teams, X-Force, and even briefly as an Avenger. He's also been a teacher at the Xavier Institute. His powers have evolved over time, granting him greater control and expanding his abilities beyond simple flight.
Cannonball is married to Smasher (Izzy Kane) of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, further deepening his connection to the wider Marvel Universe and frequently involving him in cosmic events.
