Katherine "Kitty" Pryde, known as Shadowcat, is a mutant superheroine in Marvel Comics. She first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 (1980), created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.
Kitty possesses the mutant ability to "phase," allowing her to pass through solid matter by displacing her atoms between the spaces of the object's molecules. This power renders her intangible and impervious to physical harm while phasing. She can also extend her phasing to other objects or people she is touching.
