Nicola Sturgeon is a prominent Scottish politician. She served as the First Minister of Scotland from 2014 to 2023, becoming the longest-serving woman in that role.
Born in Irvine, Scotland, in 1970, Sturgeon studied law at the University of Glasgow. She became involved in politics at a young age, joining the Scottish National Party (SNP) as a teenager.
Her political career began with her election to the Scottish Parliament in 1999. She steadily rose through the ranks of the SNP, becoming Deputy First Minister under Alex Salmond in 2007.
Following Salmond's resignation after the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, Sturgeon was elected as the SNP leader and subsequently appointed First Minister. During her tenure, she focused on issues such as education, healthcare, and tackling child poverty. She also led efforts to secure another independence referendum. She resigned from the position of First Minister in 2023.
