Mary Poppins is a fictional character, most famously portrayed by Julie Andrews in the 1964 Disney film of the same name. She is a magical nanny who arrives at the Banks family home in London, blown in by the east wind, to care for the neglected children, Jane and Michael.

Poppins possesses a unique blend of sternness and whimsy. She employs magical methods and adventures, often involving fantastical characters and settings, to teach the children valuable life lessons about kindness, responsibility, and the importance of family. She uses reverse psychology to make the children do things like take their medicine.

While she appears practically perfect in every way, a subtle vulnerability exists beneath her composed exterior. She forms a strong bond with the children and influences their parents, George and Winifred, to reconnect with each other and their children. At the end of her stay, when the family is reunited and happy, she departs, waiting for when she is needed again elsewhere, most likely to be swept away on the west wind.
