Angel, portrayed by David Boreanaz, is a key character in the TV show *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and its spin-off, *Angel*. He first appears in the *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* episode "Welcome to the Hellmouth" (1997).
Born Liam in 18th-century Ireland, he was turned into a vampire by Darla. For centuries, he was known as Angelus, a ruthless and sadistic killer. His soul was restored by a Romani curse as punishment for killing a Romani girl.
With a soul, Angel is tormented by the atrocities he committed as Angelus. He dedicates himself to fighting evil, seeking redemption for his past.
