Owen Lars was a moisture farmer on the desert planet of Tatooine and the stepbrother of Anakin Skywalker.

Following the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi delivered the infant Luke Skywalker to Owen and his wife, Beru Whitesun Lars, to be raised in secret. Owen, wary of the Jedi and believing Anakin was led astray by them, insisted Luke remain unaware of his true heritage.

Owen provided a stable, if somewhat overprotective, upbringing for Luke on the Lars homestead. He instilled a strong work ethic and kept Luke involved in the daily operations of the moisture farm, hoping to deter him from seeking adventure or following in his father's footsteps.

Tragically, Owen and Beru were killed by Imperial stormtroopers while searching for R2-D2 and C-3PO, who were carrying information vital to the Rebel Alliance. Their deaths served as the catalyst for Luke to finally leave Tatooine and embrace his destiny.
