James Howlett, primarily known as Logan and later as Wolverine, is a Marvel Comics character defined by his mutant abilities and tragic past. Born in the late 19th century, he possesses a rapid healing factor and enhanced senses.

Experimentation as part of the Weapon X project resulted in the bonding of adamantium, an indestructible metal, to his skeleton. This process, while granting enhanced durability and retractable claws, also caused immense pain and memory loss.

He served as an operative for various government agencies, including the Canadian Department H. He then went on to become a prominent member of the X-Men, fighting alongside other mutants to protect a world that fears and hates them.

Despite his formidable abilities, Logan is haunted by his violent history and struggles with his animalistic instincts. His quest for identity and purpose drives much of his character arc. Frequently injured, both physically and emotionally, he endures intense pain due to his healing factor constantly working to repair his wounds.
