He is introduced as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division - a peacekeeping and intelligence agency. Fury recruits Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and other superpowered individuals to form the Avengers Initiative.
