Amazing Spider-Man, also known as the Webslinger, first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962).
He is Peter Parker, a high school student who gains spider-like abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. These powers include superhuman strength, agility, the ability to cling to walls, and a precognitive "spider-sense" that alerts him to danger.
Driven by the guilt over his Uncle Ben's death, which he could have prevented, Peter decides to use his powers responsibly and become a costumed crimefighter, Spider-Man.
