Jon Snow is a central character in the HBO television series Game of Thrones. He first appears in the series' debut episode, "Winter Is Coming."
Portrayed by actor Kit Harington, Jon Snow is initially presented as the bastard son of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell. He grows up alongside Stark's legitimate children but is always somewhat of an outsider due to his perceived illegitimate status.
Seeking purpose and escaping his ambiguous position, Jon joins the Night's Watch, a military order sworn to defend the Wall against the dangers north of Westeros.
