Biography:
Dr. Manhattan, also known as Jonathan "Jon" Osterman, is a fictional character co-created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, first appearing in Watchmen #1 in 1986. He is a nuclear physicist who gains god-like powers after being caught in an intrinsic field generator accident in 1959.
The accident fundamentally alters Jon's existence, granting him abilities such as manipulating matter at a subatomic level, teleportation, precognition, and immortality. He becomes a key strategic asset for the United States government, significantly shifting the balance of power during the Cold War.
Unlike the other masked vigilantes in Watchmen, Dr. Manhattan operates with the explicit sanction of the government. As he grows increasingly detached from humanity due to his extended lifespan and extraordinary abilities, he begins to view the world with a detached sense of logic, struggling with concepts of free will and determinism.
