Agent Liberty is a character appearing in the CW television series Supergirl. Created by Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller and Derek Simon, he first appeared in the season four premiere, "American Alien".
Agent Liberty is the alter ego of Benjamin Lockwood, portrayed by Sam Witwer. Lockwood begins as a mild-mannered professor who initially espouses tolerance towards aliens, teaching courses on alien culture. However, tragic personal events, including attacks on his family and business by aliens, fuel a growing xenophobia.
This anger and distrust culminate in Lockwood becoming Agent Liberty, the charismatic leader of a human-first movement dedicated to eradicating aliens from Earth. He utilizes propaganda, intimidation, and violence to achieve his goals, rallying others to his cause and inciting hatred against Supergirl and other alien residents of National City.
Agent Liberty serves as a primary antagonist in season four, challenging Supergirl's ideals and forcing her to confront the complexities of prejudice and the dangers of unchecked fear. His actions and rhetoric highlight themes of social division and the fragility of tolerance.
