Data is an android officer in Star Trek: The Next Generation, first appearing in the show's premiere episode, "Encounter at Farpoint" (1987).
Created by Dr. Noonien Soong, Data is a positronic brain housed in an artificial body, designed to closely resemble a human. He serves as the Operations Officer and later Second Officer aboard the USS Enterprise-D and USS Enterprise-E.
Data is programmed with advanced intelligence and a vast capacity for knowledge. He is fascinated by humanity and strives to understand human emotions and behavior, often through observation, experimentation, and relationships with his crewmates.
Despite his inability to naturally feel emotions, Data develops a close bond with his colleagues, particularly Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge. He demonstrates courage, loyalty, and a growing understanding of ethics and morality throughout the series and films.
