Edward Newgate, more famously known as Whitebeard, is a prominent character from the popular manga and anime series One Piece. He's renowned as one of the strongest pirates in the world, often referred to as "the strongest man in the world" due to his immense physical strength and mastery of the Gura Gura no Mi, a Devil Fruit that grants him the power to create earthquakes.

Whitebeard commands the Whitebeard Pirates, a powerful and influential crew. Unlike many pirates seeking personal glory and treasure, Whitebeard's primary goal is to protect his crew, whom he considers his "sons." He fosters a familial bond within his ranks, valuing loyalty and camaraderie above all else.

Historically, Whitebeard rivaled the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. While offered the opportunity to learn the location of the legendary treasure, One Piece, he declined, stating his disinterest in becoming Pirate King. His ambitions lay solely in creating a family and protecting those under his care.

Whitebeard plays a significant role in the Marineford Arc, leading his forces against the World Government in an attempt to rescue his "son," Portgas D. Ace. He ultimately dies a heroic death during the battle, solidifying his legacy as a legendary pirate and a symbol of strength and paternal devotion.
