Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, is a mutant character appearing in Marvel Comics' X-Men series. He first appeared in *The X-Men* #1 (September 1963).
As a young child, Scott and his brother Alex were orphaned after a plane crash. The incident triggered Scott's mutant ability: the uncontrolled emission of powerful optic blasts from his eyes. Unable to control this power without specialized ruby-quartz lenses, he wears a visor or glasses at all times.
