Harry Potter

Peter Pettigrew, often referred to as Wormtail, first appears in the film *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban*, though his presence is hinted at earlier.

He was a friend of James Potter, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin during their time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was sorted into Gryffindor house, despite lacking the bravery typically associated with that house.

Pettigrew betrayed James and Lily Potter by revealing their hiding place to Lord Voldemort. This act led to their deaths and Voldemort's initial downfall. To avoid punishment, Pettigrew framed Sirius Black for the betrayal and murdered twelve Muggles, then faked his own death by transforming into a rat and living in hiding.

For twelve years, he lived as Ron Weasley's pet rat, Scabbers, until his true identity was revealed. Throughout the series, Pettigrew remained loyal to Voldemort out of fear and a desire for self-preservation, ultimately playing a crucial role in Voldemort's return to power.
