Meriadoc Brandybuck, typically known as Merry, is a hobbit from the Shire, specifically Buckland, and one of Frodo Baggins' closest companions. He plays a pivotal role in the War of the Ring, departing from the Shire alongside Frodo, Sam, and Pippin to aid in the quest to destroy the One Ring.

Initially somewhat mischievous and carefree, Merry demonstrates surprising resourcefulness and courage throughout the journey. He is instrumental in saving Frodo's life at the Barrow-downs and later becomes separated from the Fellowship.

After being captured by orcs, Merry escapes with Pippin and aids the Ents in their attack on Isengard. Following this, he becomes a squire to King Théoden of Rohan, forming a close bond with the Rohirrim and learning their customs.

Disguised, he rides with the Riders of Rohan to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where he helps Éowyn defeat the Witch-king of Angmar, fulfilling a prophecy. Despite his small stature, Merry proves to be a valiant warrior and a loyal friend, contributing significantly to the victory against Sauron. After the war, Merry returns to the Shire and plays a key role in the Scouring of the Shire, assisting in the restoration of order before becoming Master of Buckland.
