Howard Wolowitz is a fictional character featured in the CBS television sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. He first appeared in the show's pilot episode.

Portrayed by Simon Helberg, Howard is an aerospace engineer and astronaut, initially presented as an aspiring ladies' man with often cringe-worthy attempts at flirting. He is distinguished by his quirky fashion sense and his close, sometimes overbearing, relationship with his mother.

Throughout the series, Howard evolves from a somewhat immature character into a responsible husband to Bernadette Rostenkowski and father. He is a valued member of his friend group, particularly close to Sheldon Cooper, despite their frequent bickering. He is the only member of the core group without a doctorate, although he does work as an engineer at Caltech.
