Originally, Smurfette was created by Gargamel, the Smurfs' nemesis. He fashioned her from clay with the intention of sowing discord and disrupting the harmonious community of male Smurfs. Gargamel used dark magic to make her.

Initially, Smurfette possessed undesirable qualities aligned with Gargamel's intentions. She had short black hair and was not considered attractive by Smurf standards. She actively created conflict and disrupted Smurf Village life.

However, Papa Smurf, the wise and benevolent leader of the Smurfs, intervened. He used his magic to transform Smurfette, changing her hair to blonde and altering her personality. Through this process, she became kind, compassionate, and a valued member of the Smurf community, although she sometimes struggled with feelings of otherness due to her artificial origins.
