Michael Knight is a fictional character and the protagonist of the 1980s television series Knight Rider. Played by David Hasselhoff, Knight is a high-tech crime fighter who uses a technologically advanced, self-aware car named KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand).
Originally known as Michael Long, a police officer, he was left for dead after being shot in the face. He was rescued and given a new identity through facial reconstructive surgery by Wilton Knight, the founder of Knight Industries. Wilton handpicked Michael to be the lead field operative for his new foundation, FLAG (Foundation for Law and Government).
Knight is portrayed as a charming and resourceful individual dedicated to fighting injustice. He often bends the rules to achieve his goals and uses his skills in hand-to-hand combat and driving to take down criminals who are above the law.
