Gimli is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth fantasy world, most notably appearing in The Lord of the Rings. He is a Dwarf warrior, son of Glóin, who is a member of the Fellowship of the Ring, tasked with destroying the One Ring and defeating the Dark Lord Sauron.
He first appears in The Fellowship of the Ring, during the Council of Elrond. Gimli represents the Dwarves and their interests, joining the Fellowship out of loyalty to his people and a desire to aid the quest. His gruff exterior and initial prejudices against Elves are gradually softened throughout the journey, forming a close bond with the Elf Legolas.
