Biography:

Lightning Lad, also known as Garth Ranzz, is a founding member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in DC Comics. He first appeared in Adventure Comics #247 (April 1958).

Garth gained his powers of electricity manipulation alongside his siblings, Lightning Lass (Ayla Ranzz) and Lightning Lord (Mekt Ranzz), after being attacked by lightning beasts on the planet Korbal. Seeking to use their powers for good, Garth joined with Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl to form the Legion.

A defining moment for Lightning Lad is his apparent death early in the Legion's history. He sacrificed himself to save Saturn Girl from a machine, but was later resurrected through a combination of science and Saturn Girl's mental powers.
