Zhao Yun, also known as Zhao Zilong, was a prominent military general who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty and early Three Kingdoms period of China. He served under the warlord Liu Bei and his subsequent Shu Han state.
Initially, Zhao Yun served under Gongsun Zan before joining Liu Bei. He became renowned for his exceptional martial prowess, unwavering loyalty, and courage on the battlefield. His most famous exploits include rescuing Liu Bei's infant son, Liu Shan, during the Battle of Changban, where he charged through enemy lines multiple times.
Throughout his career, Zhao Yun participated in numerous campaigns, often serving as a bodyguard and vanguard for Liu Bei. He was known for his prudence, strategic thinking, and dedication to protecting the people. After Liu Bei's death, Zhao Yun continued to serve Shu Han under Liu Shan, contributing to the Northern Expeditions led by Zhuge Liang.
Zhao Yun is widely regarded as one of the "Five Tiger Generals" of Shu Han, celebrated for his bravery, righteousness, and unwavering commitment to his lord. He remains a popular figure in Chinese folklore and is often depicted as a handsome and virtuous warrior.
