The Adepta Sororitas, also known as the Sisters of Battle, are a devout all-female branch of the Imperium of Man's Ecclesiarchy in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. They serve as the armed wing of the Ecclesiarchy, enforcing its will and purging heresy with unwavering faith and righteous fire.
Founded in the aftermath of the Age of Apostasy, their creation circumvented the Decree Passive, which forbids the Ecclesiarchy from maintaining "men under arms." By exclusively recruiting women, the High Lords of Terra found a loophole, allowing the formation of a dedicated and powerful fighting force devoted to the Emperor.
Sisters are recruited from the Schola Progenium, raised from infancy in strict and brutal training, instilling absolute loyalty to the Emperor and the Ecclesiarchy. They are masters of both ranged and close combat, equipped with power armor and a variety of weaponry including bolters, flamers, and power swords.
Organized into various Orders, such as the Order of Our Martyred Lady and the Order of the Ebon Chalice, each with their distinct history and traditions, the Adepta Sororitas represent the zealous strength of faith in a grimdark galaxy.
